Cladding Info
Vinyl Cladding is a cost-effective, lightweight, insulated exterior cladding system. It’s had a solid 60-year history worldwide, and over 45 years use in New Zealand. This makes our weatherboards one of the longest standing UPVC products in New Zealand.
Cost Effective
The price you pay for your cladding is the last price. No sanding, prepping, or painting are required once it is installed leaving you more time and money to spend on other things. Because our Weatherboards are so quick to install, you save thousands compared to other weatherboard cladding types. We supply the whole cladding system, even the fixing screws, so no extra costs you haven’t thought about.
UV Stable
The harmful rays of the sun in our New Zealand environment will not break down the cladding. Our cladding contains high levels of Titanium Dioxide which acts like a ‘sunscreen’, giving high UV stability. After 60 years in some of The World’s harshest environments (including over 30 Years in New Zealand and Australia) the cladding still looks great. Your home’s exterior will not only look good for decades, but the cladding is also protected by a fade guarantee backed by the Manufacturer.
Durable
While our cladding is lightweight, it is also extremely tough. Vinyl Cladding is designed to last and look great for decades no matter the weather and is backed with a 50-Year Manufacturer Warranty.

Performance to the core
Unlike wood or fibre cement siding, vinyl cladding is immune to water damage, meaning you never have to paint or caulk to seal out water. Fibre cement siding has a porous core that can absorb water, swell, rot, and degrade when moisture penetrates through gaps or cracks in the paint and primer. Vinyl siding can’t absorb water, and in fact, actually helps a home’s walls breathe and dry out.
Colourfast
Never requires painting, ever. The colour goes right through the board; it cannot be scratched off and once installed needs no further work done. You will never have to paint your house again. A great choice for hard to reach accents and upper levels.
New Zealand Compliant
Not only has our product had 60-years of international testing and success in some of the harshest environments on earth (including NZ), it has been rigorously tested by BRANZ for New Zealand conditions. The results show that Mitten Vinyl complies with, (and exceeds) the overall NZ Building code giving you peace of mind that the product you have chosen is built to last. No wonder its the most popular cladding throughout America and Canada.
Low Maintenance
All the cladding needs is an occasional wash down with the garden hose to keep it looking like new. It never needs painting, will never rot, rust, absorb water, warp or twist. In the unlikely event of a board being damaged, individual boards can be easily removed and replaced within minutes.
Natural Disaster Safe
Each panel of weatherboard is very light, tough and very flexible meaning it will move with a building and not cause harm. It is installed to enable it to move between trims and corners. These characteristics make it the cladding of choice in earthquake prone areas and also cyclonic areas. We inspected 30 year old installations of our cladding after the first Christchurch earthquakes which still looked as good as new.
WHAT IS VINYL CLADDING?
Vinyl Cladding is an engineered product, manufactured primarily from PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). Approximately 80% of its weight is PVC resin. The remaining 20% composes other ingredients that establish:
- Colour
- Opacity
- Gloss
- Impact Resistance
- Flexibility
- Durability
Unlike some other exterior cladding types, Vinyl provides exceptional rain-screening: Reducing the accumulation of water that can reach the underlying water-resistive barrier. This Cladding is recognised by both the International Residential Code, and the International Building Code – giving our product a significant advantage over many exterior claddings that do not vent (drain) moisture.
Additionally, our Vinyl cladding comes with a 50-year transferable manufacturer warranty. Creating the ultimate peace of mind.
Starter Strip
Starter Strip is used to start the first course of cladding when using any of our horizontal weatherboard profiles. Starter Strip is installed horizontal and level along the bottom of each wall.
Corner Posts
Corner Posts are an external corner trim to be used in conjunction with all of our weatherboard profiles. Internal & External Corner Posts are cut to length (normally 50mm) below finished floor height.
J-Trim
J-Trim is installed around all windows and doors. It tucks under joinery flanges. Corners are cut at 45 degree angles, and then overlap around window/door edges.
It’s also installed hook down under your eaves at the top of the wall; to cap the last run of weatherboard to eventually be installed.
Weatherboards can now be installed, starting from the bottom of the wall (and slotting into the starter strip). Each board is slightly loose fixed, and then checked that it can move to accommodate expansion and contraction. This is continued until all walls are fully clad.
